Frequently Asked Questions (Panelists)
We’re like a book club, with no books! Seriously though, instead of a book we talk about a different topic every month. We have been Atlanta’s premier African-American discussion group since 2003. We meet once a month to discuss an array of topics from politics and pop culture to religion to Black love and relationships. We talk about anything we consider relevant to the greater African-American community. We meet from 1-3 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month (second Saturday on holiday weekends) at African-American-owned venues throughout metro Atlanta. Our membership is co-ed, hails from a variety of backgrounds and at times has ranged in age from 21 to 60-plus. Anyone open to listening to and discussing issues from an informed African-American perspective is invited to join us.
What’s the format?
We are fairly informal. A moderator presides over the meeting and typically 3-6 panelists are invited to share their perspectives. Interactive discussion is encouraged among the audience throughout the meeting – not just during a designated q&a period. Expect the moderator to acknowledge audience members throughout the meeting who want pose questions or make comments.
Do I need to bring anything?
Not really. There’s no need for PowerPoint or video presentations. We’re pretty informal. Just bring your perspective and some business cards to network with our members.
What’s the attire?
The dress is casual. There is no need to dress up. Do note, however, that we take photos and stream the meetings live on the Web, so wear what is comfortable to you.
When do I need to arrive?
We only ask that panelists arrive about 15 minutes beforehand to get set up. The meeting begins at 1 p.m.
May I promote my projects, initiatives or products on the panel?
Absolutely. We allow panelists to introduce themselves at the beginning of the meetings and to have a final comment at the close of the meetings. That is a great time to mention anything you would like to share with the group.
May I invite others?
Absolutely. Feel free to forward the email invite to colleagues, friends and fans in your network! All are invited! We only ask that those who attend support the Black-owned business where the meetings are held by buying a snack or beverage.
